BELLINGHAM, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – Western Washington University Police are investigating after a threat was made against its campus.

Western sent out an alert to staff and students on Tuesday, Sept. 30 assuring that the situation was under control.

According to the message, the university received an email around 8 a.m. that contained racist language and a “broad, nonspecific threat” near Wilson Library.

University police, Bellingham police and K-9 units made a sweep of the building while it was closed out of caution, and an all-clear was issued at around 11 a.m.

The university says local and federal law enforcement officials have determined that the threat is not credible. It adds that there isn’t any evidence to suggest that the threat came from someone on campus.

Western confirmed to My Bellingham Now that their investigation into the incident is ongoing.
