OLYMPIA, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – An ongoing statewide outage of online court records is having a ripple effect on gun sales.

KIRO News reports that Washington State Patrol’s (WSP) background check system for gun purchases has not been functioning since Nov. 1. The court record outage was reported the next day.

WSP Communications Director Chris Loftis says that they receive hundreds of background check requests every day as the outage continues. It is estimated that they receive anywhere from 400 to 1,000 requests daily.

He estimates that online services, including background checks, should be available sometime next week.

“The people that are working on it know the seriousness of it. They know the interconnectivity we have in these systems,” Loftis said.
