GLACIER, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – There is hope for hitting the slopes before year’s end after all.

WSDOT has announced that the Mount Baker Highway between Glacier and the Mount Baker Ski Area will reopen beginning Sunday, Dec. 21 for daily, alternating traffic.

The department closed the road after a landslide blocked the highway for days last week.

The Ski Area delayed their opening in light of the closure that blocks the only road to Mount Baker, with plans to open a day later to passholders and for the public on Monday.

SR 542 is down to one lane for roughly three miles with flaggers directing traffic as contractors working with the department work to create a more permanent fix to the highway. They expect to be able to finish those repairs in 2026.

The section of road will only be open to traffic from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily until those fixes have been made.
