BELLINGHAM, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – Construction work on a Fairhaven fish passage project could be extended into overnight hours.

The City of Bellingham says that contractors are requesting to work overnight hours as needed on the Padden Creek site.

Currently, their work hours are set from roughly 7 a.m. to 10 p.m.

The contractor, Faber Construction, is looking for an extension in order to complete in-water work that would otherwise be delayed for nearly a full year.

The project is supposed to be completed by the state Department of Ecology’s regulatory fish window deadline of Sept. 30, though Ecology could extend it into mid-October.

Public Works Director Joel Pfundt says Faber believes it can finish within that window without working at night but is seeking the extension so it has the option in case it’s needed.

My Bellingham Now previously reported that the Padden Creek project has already been delayed due to two separate fuel spills from a faulty pump.

The request for a noise ordinance was approved by the council’s Public Works and Natural Resources Committee and will be brought before the City Council on Monday night for final approval.
