WHATCOM COUNTY, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – Lightning-sparked wildfires in the North Cascades continue to spread, despite some wet weather moving through over the weekend.

The National Parks Service says that the Border 2 fire has grown to over 1,200 acres, but remains 0% contained as of Sunday night, July 26.

Border 2 has been burning in steep, remote terrain near the northeast side of Ross Lake since July 16.

Recreational access to the north side of Ross Lake is closed due to the fire.

Further south, the Luna Fire has burned roughly 330 acres of mountainous slopes since sparking on July 2.

And just east of Whatcom County, the Ptarmigan Fire has expanded to over 2,700 acres in Okanogan County.
