WHATCOM COUNTY, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – Whatcom County’s unemployment rate dipped in the last month, with data showing a seasonal but year-over-year improvement.

The Washington State Employment Security Department reports the county’s jobless rate fell to 3.7% in April.

That’s down from March’s rate of 4.2%, though the drop between months is expected given the seasonal change. Seasonally adjusted unemployment rates have not yet been released at the county level for 2025.

However, last month’s rate was also down from a year ago, when it was 4% in April 2024 in Whatcom County.

Skagit County’s unemployment rate fell from both the previous month and from the same time last year.

Meanwhile, the state’s jobless rate remained the same as in March.
