WHATCOM COUNTY, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – Community members have an upcoming chance to hear more about Whatcom County’s plan to reduce flood risk moving forward.

Public Works staff will be holding a long-anticipated presentation in front of the county council’s Public Works and Health Committee on Tuesday, Feb. 24.

The presentation will recap a meeting that took place earlier this month between more than 65 local, state and federal officials to map out the county’s early action flood plan.

The plan will identify action priorities everywhere from Ferndale and Lummi to Everson, Nooksack and Sumas.

My Bellingham Now previously reported that the county has already asked the state legislature for $15 million to fund its early action project, though the short-term need is currently estimated at $182 million.

The public is free to attend Tuesday’s presentation, which takes place at 11 a.m. in the council chambers, either in-person or via Zoom.
