BELLINGHAM, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – As one set of pickleball courts leaves Bellingham, another will soon take its place.

Volli Bellingham announced Wednesday that they will be closing their pickleball courts on March 31. General Manager Heidi Taylor said in an email that the business was not making enough money to keep operating the courts.

Instead, Volli will rebrand to an electric go-kart race track called Mach1 Speedway and Arcade, opening as soon as early June.

Meanwhile, Bellingham’s Parks and Recreation Department is making plans to add four new outdoor pickleball courts to Cornwall Memorial Park.

A previous project in 2018 converted two tennis courts to six pickleball courts. Now, the city plans to convert another tennis court into three pickleball courts and resurface a second tennis court into a full-sized tennis court with lines for pickleball as well.

The project scope will include asphalt repairs, tree root barriers, nets, new signing, fencing and gates.

Construction will begin in late summer and the project is expected to be finished by October. The city adds that no trees will be removed as part of the process.
