VANCOUVER, B.C. (MyBellinghamNow.com) – Crossing the border in a train has just gotten a bit easier.

WSDOT announced that as of this past Monday, Pacific Central Station in Vancouver has officially been designated as a preclearance location.

That means that Amtrak Cascades travelers heading into the U.S. will not need to undergo a second customs inspection in Blaine.

Travel times are expected to be reduced by about 10 minutes following the change.

Vancouver’s train station becomes the first in North America to get the preclearance designation. Data from Amtrak shows Pacific Central Station is the third most frequented stop on the Cascades route.
