BELLINGHAM, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – Northwest Indian College (NWIC) is getting a visit from the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Deputy Secretary on Friday, Feb. 9.

The visit is a part of Deputy Secretary Xochitl Torres Small’s multi-week tour of colleges across the United States.

According to a press release, the Deputy’s tour highlights the Department of Agriculture’s (USDA) efforts to boost the country’s agricultural economy. Specifically, they are working to create economic opportunities, bolster goods supply chains (big and small), strengthen agricultural operations and bolster prosperity in rural communities.

Deputy Secretary Torres Small’s Feb. 9 visit to northwest Washington will begin at Mount Vernon’s Northwest Agriculture Business Center. She will then travel to Bellingham and the Lummi Nation to visit NWIC that afternoon. Deputy Secretary Torres Small will visit the area with the intent of seeing how the USDA and the college work together to advance sustainable practices, prosperity and competition.
