UPDATE: Police release identity in death at Squalicum Harbor

BELLINGHAM, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – Police are investigating a fight at Squalicum Harbor on the night of Wednesday, June 19, that left one man dead.

Bellingham Police say a man called 9-1-1 just before 10 p.m. to report a fight he got into that involved a gun. The man said that the gun went off during the altercation and killed the other man, identified as 51-year-old Thomas Westendorf.

Officers arrived to find the man who reported the incident on his vessel at Squalicum Harbor gate 9 along with Westendorf’s body.

Investigators have been in contact with the Prosecutor’s office, though no arrests have been made and no charges have been filed yet.

No further details of the circumstances leading to Westendorf’s death are being released, as the investigation is ongoing.
