Two people hospitalized following apartment fire in Bellingham

BELLINGHAM, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – Two people were hospitalized following a fire at an apartment building near I-5 in Bellingham on Friday.

Bellingham Fire Department Captain Dustin Michaelis tells My Bellingham Now that responders were called to the fire on the 1400 block of James Street around 11 a.m.

They arrived to find a heavy fire on the first two floors of the multi-unit complex.

A person inside the building jumped from a second story window and was sent to PeaceHealth St. Joseph Medical Center along with one of the other people at the scene. Firemen were able to rescue another resident from a second story balcony.

Crews put out the fire roughly half an hour after they arrived.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
