BELLINGHAM, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – Two people were arrested after attempting to run from police in Bellingham.

Police Lt. Claudia Murphy says that an officer watched a car driving recklessly near E. Kellogg Road late Thursday.

Officers attempted to pursue them, but the car fled at unsafe speeds and was monitored from a distance.

The suspects were eventually caught near the Old Fairhaven Parkway exit off of I-5 after the driver ran in front of a patrol car.

His passenger was found hiding in nearby blackberry bushes and was taken to PeaceHealth St. Joseph Medical Center for a broken vertebra.

The 40-year-old male driver and the 36-year-old female passenger both have active warrants out of California and remain in custody at the Whatcom County Jail.
