WISER LAKE, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – Whatcom County Health and Community Services (WCHCS) has announced a lift in regulations at Wiser Lake in north Whatcom County.

Recent sampling of the water at Wiser Lake has shown safe levels of microcystin, a biotoxin produced by algae.

This prompted WCHCS to lift the warnings that advise people and pets to avoid contact with the water. The warnings were put in place this August, after a stretch of time with safe levels of biotoxins.

Residents should still avoid contact with algae blooms at the lake, which can look like scummy or clumpy material in the water.

If pets go into an area with an algae bloom, people are advised to stop the animal from licking their fur and instead rinse them and any exposed skin with clean water.
