The Mariners are in Oakland tonight for the start of their series against the Athletics.

It’s the first time in 21 years that the M’s have entered June by leading the AL West, with a 4.5 game edge over the Rangers.

George Kirby is on the mound tonight as he looks to help bring Seattle its eighth win in their last nine games.

They’re facing a struggling A’s club that has lost four of their last five.

Coverage begins at 5:30 and first pitch is at 6:40 on KPUG.

Meanwhile, San Diego Padres infielder Tucupita Marcano has been banned for life for allegedly betting on baseball.

The MLB says Marcano placed nearly 400 bets totaling over $150,000 with a legal sportsbook, including wagers on games involving the Pittsburgh Pirates when he was with the team last season.

He wasn’t particularly successful, however, with the league saying he won just over 4% of his MLB-related bets.

Marcano now becomes the first active baseball player in a century to be banned for life because of gambling.

The Seattle Storm are looking to win their fifth straight tonight in a game against the Phoenix Mercury.

Seattle shook off a 1-3 start to the season by reeling off four straight wins, two of them coming against Caitlin Clark and the Indiana Fever.

They now sit just one game behind Minnesota for first place in the Western Conference.

Tonight’s home match against the Mercury tips off at 7:00.

And one of the stars for Western’s softball team is getting her due.

Freshman starting pitcher Alli Kimball was selected as one of eight finalists for the D-II national Freshman of the Year award.

She went 24-4 with a 1.41 ERA in 38 appearances, including seven complete games and four shutouts.

Kimball was especially valuable during the Vikings’ memorable postseason run, going 9-2 to earn All-Tournament Team honors.

Her 24 wins ranked third in WWU single-season history.
