WHATCOM COUNTY, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – Be prepared for the potential of more record-breaking heat in the coming days.

The National Weather Service said it expects temperatures to sharply rise in Whatcom County on Monday, June 22 and Tuesday, June 23, posing a moderate heat risk to sensitive groups.

Tuesday’s high is currently forecast to break Bellingham’s all-time record of 85 degrees for that day of the month.

Everson and Ferndale are each projected to see temperatures in the high 80’s and even touching 90 degrees.

It follows a heat wave that came last weekend, when Sunday’s high of 84 degrees was the hottest on record in Bellingham.

Forecasters warn the warm and dry conditions early next week will increase the risk of brush fires. An estimated half-dozen fires have already burned in the state this week, including the Upriver Fire near Spokane and the Kartar Fire in Okanogan County.
