BELLINGHAM, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – Officials are warning drivers to avoid a section of road in the Happy Valley neighborhood after a collision overturned a tanker truck.
The Bellingham Fire Department says the truck, which was carrying liquid nitrogen, overturned on Taylor Avenue near 30th Street around 12:30 p.m. Monday, Sept. 21.
The incident spurred the early closure of Joe’s Gardens, the nursery directly adjacent to the crash. Nearby businesses and homes were evacuated and power was shut off as a precaution.
BFD and HAZMAT teams had been monitoring the tanker that was on its side after the crash for leaks. None of the liquid nitrogen spilled, and no injuries were reported.
Power was restored and roads reopened around 9:30 p.m.
An investigation into the cause of the crash is ongoing.
