Suspect arrested after shooting death in Mount Vernon

MOUNT VERNON, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – A suspect has been arrested in connection to a man’s shooting death in Skagit County.

Mount Vernon Police say that officers were initially called for a domestic violence incident early Sunday, April 14 at a home on West Lawrence Street. A 28-year-old man was found dead from a gunshot wound inside the home. Witnesses told officers that the suspect fled the area after the shooting.

About three hours later, the suspect arrived at Skagit Valley Hospital’s ER and told staff that he had been assaulted. Officers developed probable cause to arrest the suspect, 42-year-old Jorge Vasquez, who now faces first degree murder and burglary charges.

The victim has not yet been identified.
