ANACORTES, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – A juvenile was taken into custody following a reported threat made at Anacortes Middle School last week.

The district said in a message to staff and families that it received a report last Thursday that a student had made a verbal threat directed at the safety of other students.

That prompted Anacortes Police to interview students, parents and staff about the incident.

After the investigation, the department says officers arrested a juvenile on suspicion of threatening to bomb or injure property.

The student was transported to Skagit County Juvenile Detention.

The department says investigators didn’t find any evidence to support claims that the student had access to a firearm or brought one to school.

The Anacortes School District says it’s reinforcing the seriousness of joking about school-related violence to its students.
