SAN JUAN COUNTY, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – Washington State Patrol (WSP) is searching for witnesses to an alleged assault that took place on a nearby ferry last month.

The San Juan County Sheriff’s Office says the incident occurred when a woman was walking off the ferry from San Juan Island to Anacortes on Aug. 21.

She was pulling a child in a cart when it bumped into a man’s leg.

According to the Sheriff’s Office, the woman says he turned around and “karate chopped” her neck.

The woman then followed him to take a video on her phone before the suspect, identified as a 70-year-old man from Orcas Island, walked away on the Anacortes side.

The incident took place on a Washington State Ferry outside of San Juan County jurisdiction, so State Patrol is the investigating agency.

WSP is asking anyone who may have witnessed the incident to contact their lead investigator Trooper Nicholas Hagg at Nicholas.haag@wsp.wa.gov and 425-508-3222.
