DECEPTION PASS, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – Slower speed limits are coming to Skagit County in the near future.

WSDOT crews will be changing the speed limit on Hwy 20 between Sharpes Corner and the north side of Deception Pass this week.

The new 45 mph limit on that stretch of road comes after safety concerns were raised by the Samish Indian Nation and other community members.

It takes effect as soon as the signs are installed.

WSDOT added that they’re working with the Samish Nation and Skagit County to install a roundabout at the intersection of Campbell Lake Rd later this summer.

The subject of speed limit reductions has also been a hot-button issue in Whatcom County.

My Bellingham Now previously reported that the City of Bellingham will begin lowering speed limits through the downtown district and near WWU later this summer.
