The Northwest Washington Fair in Lynden kicks off next Thursday, Aug. 13, but if you are jonesing for some fair action right now, you are in luck.
The Skagit County Fair runs Thursday, Aug. 6 to Sunday, Aug. 9 at the fairgrounds in Mount Vernon (501 Taylor Street). The fair features animals, exhibits, a carnival, food, drinks, live music and more.

Families looking for fun in Ferndale should plan on attending Play, Learn and Connect: A Community Festival at Pioneer Park (2007 Cherry Street) on Sunday. The festival offers attendees an opportunity to connect, discover and have fun.
There will be activities for all-ages, interactive booths, food trucks, treats, a “Dream the Museum” input web and more. Local organizations will also be on site to help attendees connect with services that support the community.
A Community Festival runs from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Admission is free.
Aspiring mountain bikers are in luck. Radical Roots MTB offers classes for beginners who want to learn the basics and hit the trails.
On Saturday, riders can attend classes like MTB 101: Intro the Mountain Biking, MTB 201: Into to Technical Riding and MTB 301: Intro to Jumps. The classes will teach riders the skills they need to enjoy the trails on Galbraith Mountain, Stewart Mountain and beyond.
So, if you have a mountain bike sitting in your garage begging for a ride, now is your time to shine.
Does taking in a classic movie in an outdoor setting sound like it is more your speed?
Fairhaven Outdoor Cinema presents The Princess Bride on Saturday at the Village Green. The iconic 80s fantasy film features incredible performances from a cast that includes Cary Elwes, Mandy Patinkin, Christopher Guest, Andre the Giant, Billy Crystal and more.
