SKAGIT COUNTY, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – A cold case from the early 90’s is being resurrected in Skagit County.

The Coroner’s Office says that they received a request to reexamine unidentified male remains found in the Skagit River near Mount Vernon in February 1991.

The victim is described as a shorter male with black hair, who was found wearing dark Bermuda shorts and had a red bandanna around his waist. He also had a healed buckshot wound on his knee, which investigators believe didn’t contribute to his death.

Genetics Uncovered, a Wyoming-based organization, is working with the Coroner’s Office to raise funding for in-depth DNA testing in this case.

The state Anthropologist and the King County Medical Examiner will be consulted to determine the best course of action for testing after the remains are disinterred.
