SKAGIT COUNTY, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – Skagit County is asking for public input as its meal program for seniors is in limbo.
The Skagit County Board of County Commissioners is holding a public meeting this Monday to discuss the future of its Meals on Wheels program.
The program offers hot meals for Skagit’s senior citizens, both by delivery and by congregate meals in local senior centers.
The county estimates that senior services will cost over $1.7 million in 2026, as the cost has more than doubled over the last 10 years while funding remains stagnant.
The commissioners are adamant that they are not considering closing senior centers or Meals on Wheels, but they are looking at finding a new, non-profit operator for the program.
They’ll discuss the transition and make a final decision during Monday’s meeting, which is open to the public.
It runs from 12:30 pm to 1:00 in the commissioners’ hearing room in Mount Vernon.
