BELLINGHAM, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – A new store opening later this month is hoping to fill the gap after JOANN’s Bellingham location closure earlier this year.

Sew Inspired Fabrics announced their opening date is Friday, Nov. 28.

The Fairhaven shop will be located on Harris Avenue and will cater to eco-conscious sewing needs as well as education and community for sewists in Bellingham.

Owner Robin Robertson says that given her background in environmental science, waste reduction and love of sewing, she is hoping to fill a need for eco-conscious apparel fabric stores north of Seattle.

Sew Inspired Fabrics intends to host sewing classes for a variety of skill levels and provide natural fibers alongside recycled polyester and dead stock fabric.

Robertson says that her upcoming store is the only one to cater to apparel between Seattle and the Canadian border.

My Bellingham Now previously reported the nonprofit Ragfinery plans to reopen its doors sometime before the end of this year.

Robertson adds that she decided to open the store at this time after retiring from operating the nearby Bellingham Training and Tennis Club with her husband, noting they are still the current owners.

“In Bellingham, we have several stores that offer mostly quilting Fabrics and I felt like there was textile desert for apparel fabrics.  I hope that what we offer at Sew Inspired Fabrics will complement the other stores and we’ll all work together to build our creative Community,” she said in an email.
