BELLINGHAM, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – Many Democratic lawmakers plan to boycott the State of the Union address on Tuesday, including some elected officials from Washington.

Sen. Patty Murray announced today that she and several Washington state leaders will be holding their own address this evening.

Murray in a statement said the address will be directed towards Washingtonians to explain how the president has failed the state.

Murray started her speech with addressing her opinion that Trump is out of touch with U.S. residents, noting how you actually need to talk to the people living in the country.

“You talk with everyday people,” the senator said. “Longshoremen losing work from Trump’s trade wars. A local coffeeshop getting crushed by  Trump’s tariffs. Moms and dads struggling with groceries and energy bills. In a government of the people, by the people, the state of the union is the state of our families and communities.”

Murray was joined by speakers from Washington state for her address, including the Hospital Commissioner at Three Rivers Hospital Leslie McNamara, Longshoreman with ILWU Sarah Esch and immigration lawyer Olia Catala.

Many other Democrats will be holding their own “State of the People” – or “State of the Swamp” in one case – addresses this evening in protest of the Trump Administration’s actions over the past year.
