BELLINGHAM, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – Rite Aid locations around Whatcom County will soon transition to CVS stores following the company’s bankruptcy announcement.

CVS spokesperson Amy Thibault tells My Bellingham Now that the company is planning to acquire and operate four of the county’s six Rite Aid locations in the coming months.

The Rite Aid in Sehome Village is expected to close on Aug. 19 and reopen the next day as a CVS pharmacy.

Rite Aid locations in other parts of the county are also each expected to transition to CVS stores starting in mid-September. The Lynden Rite Aid would close on Sept. 14, Blaine’s would close on Sept. 21 and Ferndale’s would close on Sept. 24 with each of the stores opening the following day as a CVS pharmacy.

Thibault says all prescriptions will be transferred to CVS and no action is needed from patients.

Meanwhile, Bellingham’s other two Rite Aid locations on Northwest Avenue and Sunset Drive will remain under the Rite Aid name for now while their pharmacies close in the near future. Thibaily says that prescriptions from Northwest Avenue location will be transferred to the CVS inside Target at Bellis Fair Mall on July 9 and prescriptions from the Sunset location will be sent to the Sehome Village CVS on Sept. 10.

Rite Aid announced earlier this year that its stores will remain open for now as it returns to bankruptcy proceedings.
