WHATCOM COUNTY, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – Recreational shellfish harvesting is back open in Whatcom County.

Whatcom County Health and Community Services announced on Friday afternoon that paralytic shellfish poisoning (PSP) biotoxin levels have dropped in shellfish throughout the county.

All Whatcom County beaches, including Sandy Point south to the Skagit County line, and all of Lummi Island, are back open for recreational shellfish harvesting.

Those shellfish can include clams, mussels, oysters and scallops.

KGMI previously reported those beaches were closed in August due to dangerous levels of PSP.

Harvesters are still advised to check the state’s shellfish closure map before digging.
