BELLINGHAM, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – Energy bills in western Washington will be seeing some rate increases starting in May.

For lower-cost ratepayers at Puget Sound Energy (PSE), bills may not go up past a few dollars, jumping less than 2% for residential customers.

A customer using about 800 kWh will see a less than $3 increase to their monthly bill.

This comes after we saw rates jump with the new year.

PSE also requested a significant rate jump to revitalize existing infrastructure and build more to keep up with demand.

If approved by the end of the year, we won’t see the full effects passed onto customers until 2029, with electric bills expected to spike nearly 30% under the current proposal.

Natural gas customers will see a slight drop in their monthly bills under the rates effective May 1.
