OLYMPIA, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – Overdue payments for Washington residents who rely on food stamps are finally back on track.

Gov. Bob Ferguson announced on Monday that the state has caught up on SNAP payments that were delayed due to the government shutdown.

Eligible residents receive their benefits on the same day each month in Washington, and Ferguson says the state plans to stay on schedule with payments for the rest of the month.

The state Department of Social and Health Services (DSHS) is encouraging residents who receive SNAP benefits to check the status of their EBT card by calling the number on the back of it.

The department adds that it’s processing new applications for SNAP that were submitted after Oct. 16 as quickly as it can.

DSHS says it doesn’t know what will happen to the food assistance benefits in December but will share more information as soon as it’s available.
