The Seahawks’ Super Bowl MVP is heading to free agency.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports that Seattle is not expected to use a franchise or transition tag on running back Kenneth Walker III.

Walker is now set to become an unrestricted free agent when the new league year opens next Wednesday. The 25-year-old is entering his fifth season in the NFL and is coming off a year where he set a career high in scrimmage yards with just over 1,300.

The Hawks also have several other key contributors hitting free agency, including Riq Woolen, Boye Mafe, Rashid Shaheed and Cobe Bryant.

Meanwhile, a NFC West rival is parting with one of the recent faces of their franchise. ESPN reports that the Arizona Cardinals have told quarterback Kyler Murray that they plan to release him next Wednesday when the new league year begins, barring a trade.

Murray was already guaranteed nearly $37 million for 2026, but will miss out on another $20 million if he’s removed from the roster before March 16.

The 28-year-old was the No. 1 overall pick in 2019 and has gone on to make two Pro Bowls over his seven seasons with Arizona. But his time there featured just one winning season and one playoff game.

Murray thanked the organization in a statement posted to social media and said he believes his best ball is in front of him.

Kraken News

The Kraken have gotten their homestand off to a strong start.

Seattle edged Carolina 2-1 last night to end the Hurricanes’ 12-match points streak. Kaapo Kakko and Ben Meyers each scored to back up 35 saves by goalie Joey Daccord to earn the win.

The Kraken have now won the first two legs of their six-game homestand going into tomorrow night’s match against St. Louis. There, they’ll look to avenge last week’s road loss to the Blues.

Mariners News

The Mariners made their return to Cactus League play this afternoon.

The M’s fell to the Los Angeles Angels 7-6. Seattle led by two runs entering the ninth inning, but LA rallied to take the win.

Rhylan Thomas and Patrick Wisdom each homered for the Mariners. Bryan Woo gave up two runs and struck out four over two and one-thirds innings in his second start of spring training.

It’s now time for the Mariners’ top prospects to shine in the absence of several lineup regulars. Seattle lost 16 players, including Cal Raleigh and Julio Rodriguez, to the World Baseball Classic, which starts on Thursday.

Whatcom County teams hit the road today for their respective state basketball tournaments. The tournament tips off tomorrow with a pair of games on the radio.

First up, the Nooksack Valley boys are looking to build on getting their first state tournament win in 15 years.

The 16th-seeded Pioneers are playing 8th-seeded Seattle Christian in a loser-out match at the SunDome in Yakima. The winner will play Lynden Christian in the 1A quarterfinals.

Coverage begins at 1:45 tomorrow and tipoff is at 2 on KPUG with Rick Todd and Jason Upton on the call.

After that, the 9th-seeded Lynden boys are playing 8th-seeded Renton in another loser-out game at the dome. The winner will face R.A. Long in the 2A quarterfinals.

Meanwhile in Spokane, the 8th-seeded Lummi Nation girls are fighting for their season in a loser-out game against 9th-seeded Almira Coulee Hartline, with the winner advancing to the 1B quarterfinals. The Blackhawks tip off at 9 pm from Numerica Veterans Arena.
