The Seahawks are flying high after getting their first win of the season. Seattle beat the Pittsburgh Steelers 31-17 yesterday with a little help from a special teams mishap.
Steelers rookie Kaleb Johnson turned his back on a live ball during a kickoff early in the fourth quarter and the Seahawks’ George Holani made a heads-up play to recover it in Seattle’s end zone for a score. It was the first time that had happened in 45 years.
The rest of Seattle’s offense showed up, with Jaxon Smith-Njigba and Cooper Kupp combining for 190 receiving yards. Kenneth Walker III led their ground attack with 105 yards and a touchdown to back up a strong defensive effort that featured a pair of interceptions.
Next up for the Hawks, they’re back home against the New Orleans Saints on Sunday.
Meanwhile, it’s a Monday Night Football doubleheader on KPUG. The Houston Texans are hosting the Tampa Bay Buccaneers before old rivals collide when Pete Carroll’s Las Vegas Raiders host Jim Harbaugh and the Los Angeles Chargers.
Texans-Bucs kicks off at 4:00 and Raiders-Chargers kicks off at 7.
WSU Cougs News
The Cougs suffered their first loss of the season on Saturday. They fell to North Texas 59-10.
Jaxon Potter threw three interceptions and the Cougs lost two more fumbles on their way to the blowout loss. Wazzu wouldn’t find the end zone until just under two minutes left in the game.
They’ll look to rebound next Saturday when they host the Washington Huskies in the Apple Cup.
Mariners News
The red-hot Mariners have the day off before they embark on their final road trip of the season.
The M’s beat the Los Angeles Angels three times over the weekend to complete the series sweep and extend their win streak to nine. They now own sole possession of first place in the American League West division for the first time since June.
Cal Raleigh highlighted yesterday’s win with his major league-leading 54th home run of the year. That tied Mickey Mantle’s season record for most home runs by a switch hitter. George Kirby also matched his career high with 14 strikeouts in the win.
Seattle will now head back on the road, where they’ve struggled in recent weeks. Their final road trip of the season begins in Kansas City, where they’ll face the Royals in a three-game series.

Playoff basketball will be back in Seattle tomorrow. The Storm are hosting the Las Vegas Aces on the heels of a rough showing in the first game of their opening-round series last night.
Vegas beat them 102-77 to win their 17th-straight game. Gabby Williams led the Storm with 16 points, but it wasn’t enough to stop reigning MVP A’ja Wilson and the Aces.
