Seahawks News

The Seahawks led the way in the NFL’s Pro Bowl selections today.

Seattle had six players picked to the NFC’s team, which was tied for most in the league and one short of tying a franchise record.

Sam Darnold, Jaxon Smith-Njigba and Rashid Shaheed were all part of the offense, while Demarcus Lawrence, Leonard Williams and Devon Witherspoon were named to the defense. It was the fifth Pro Bowl selection for Lawrence, while Williams and Witherspoon each picked up the third of their careers.

The Hawks also had four players named as alternates with Coby Bryant, Ernest Jones IV, Robbie Outzs and Brady Russell.

The Pro Bowl Games take place in San Francisco during the week leading up to the Super Bowl and feature a 7-on-7 flag football game.

NFL News

Former Seahawk DK Metcalf has been suspended two games and could lose a big chunk of change for a viral incident in last Sunday’s game in Detroit.

The Steelers wide receiver was seen shoving a Lions fan who said something to him during the game. The fan later denied using any racist, misogynistic or hate-based language during the incident, in a statement released by his lawyers.

The suspension would void $45 million in future guaranteed money for Metcalf, according to the terms of his contract. ESPN reports that he has appealed the suspension.

It comes as the Steelers are in the midst of a neck-and-neck race for first place in the AFC North with the Baltimore Ravens.

The race for the NFC West is heating up after the Seahawks’ division rivals got a big win on Monday Night Football.

The 49ers beat the Colts 48-27 last night behind five touchdown passes by Brock Purdy. San Francisco now sits just a game behind Seattle for first place in the division with two games remaining, including a head-to-head matchup in the Bay Area in the season finale.

Mariners News

The Mariners continued their active offseason by adding a new bat yesterday.

The M’s signed outfielder Rob Refsnyder to a one-year contract worth a reported $6 million.

Refsnyder, who turns 35 in March, has spent the past four seasons with the Red Sox. He’s expected to slot in as a utility man and designated hitter against left-handed pitching for Seattle.

Refsnyder has hit over .300 against lefties for five straight seasons.

Kraken News

The Kraken have won back-to-back games for the first time in over a month.

Seattle beat the Anaheim Ducks 3-1 last night as the team tries to put one of their worst stretches in franchise history behind them. The match was tied entering the final period, but Jordan Eberle scored twice, including an empty-netter in the final minute, to secure the much-needed win.

The Kraken are still recovering from a rough patch where they lost 10 of 11 games. They’ll look to maintain their recent momentum and notch their third straight win tonight when they face the Los Angeles Kings in the final game of their road trip.

WSU Cougars News

The Cougs got a big bowl win against a future Pac-12 opponent yesterday.

Washington State beat Utah State 34-21 in the Famous Idaho Potato Bowl.

Zevi Eckhaus threw for a season-high 334 yards with three touchdowns as the Cougs piled up 628 yards of offense in Boise. Maxwell Woods took nine carries for 117 yards to become the first player to top 100 yards for Wazzu this season.

It was the Cougs’ first postseason win since beating Iowa State in the 2018 Alamo Bowl. They’ll return to a rebuilt Pac-12 conference next season with Utah State and Boise State among the new additions.
