Seahawks News

Day 2 of the NFL Draft is upon us.

The Seahawks drafted Notre Dame running back Jadarian Price with the final pick of the first round last night. Price ran for 674 yards and 11 touchdowns last season as the Fighting Irish’s No. 2 back behind Jeremiyah Love, who went third overall to the Arizona Cardinals.

He’s expected to be Seattle’s top back to start off the season with Zach Charbonnet still recovering from an ACL injury.

Meanwhile, the Seahawks’ NFC West rival Rams made one of the most surprising picks of the draft, taking Alabama quarterback Ty Simpson 13th overall.

Coming up tonight, the Hawks own the 64th overall pick in Round 2 and the 96th overall pick in Round 3.

Mariners News

The Mariners are back tonight as they look to maintain momentum from Wednesday’s walk off win. They’re playing the St. Louis Cardinals in the first of a six-game road trip to the Midwest.

The M’s narrowly avoided a sweep at the hands of the Athletics on Wednesday thanks to a walk off single by Josh Naylor.

They still sit 2.5 games behind the A’s for first place in the AL West, but their top hitters are starting to hit their stride after a slow start. Cal Raleigh had three home runs and six hits in the A’s series and Julio Rodriguez is riding a 19-game on-base streak.

They’ll now take on a Cardinals team that’s won six of its last eight. George Kirby is on the mound for tonight’s series opener in St. Louis.

Coverage begins at 4:00 and first pitch is at 5:15 on KPUG.

Meanwhile, a former relief pitcher for the M’s is making his return to Seattle.

The Mariners traded reliever Casey Legumina to the Tampa Bay Rays today in exchange for minor league right-handed pitcher Ty Cummings. Cummings was part of a 2024 trade that sent him to Tampa Bay while bringing All-Star outfielder Randy Arozarena to Seattle.

Legumina was designated for assignment after giving up three runs in one inning in Monday’s loss to the Athletics. He posted a 5.43 ERA in 56 appearances over his two seasons with the Mariners.

Sounders/Reign News

Plenty of pro soccer in Seattle this weekend.

First up, the Sounders are hosting FC Dallas tomorrow night as they try to extend their six-match unbeaten streak in MLS play. Seattle’s coming off a dominant 4-1 trouncing of St. Louis last weekend that saw a brace from Cristian Roldan.

On Sunday, the Reign are returning from their three-week break to host the Utah Royals. It’s the first match for the team’s all-time assist leader Jess Fishlock since she announced that this will be her final season before retirement.

WWU Vikings News

Western’s softball team is playing its final home games of the season this weekend with a chance to move into the top of the conference standings.

The Vikings are hosting Saint Martin’s for a pair of doubleheaders on Saturday and Sunday. Western sits two games back from Saint Martin’s for first place in the GNAC standings, with just eight games to go in the regular season.

The Viks will look to continue their dominance over the Saints this season, having won all three of their previous matchups.

The first game starts at noon tomorrow from Viking Field.
