Seahawks News
The Seahawks are officially up for sale.
The estate of late team owner Paul Allen announced today that it’s begun the formal process of selling the team. It comes weeks after the Seahawks won their second Super Bowl in franchise history.
The estate says the sale is consistent with Allen’s directive to eventually sell his sports holdings, which also include the Portland Trail Blazers, and direct all estate proceeds to charity.
Allen was critical in keeping the Seahawks in Seattle, which is where the team is expected to remain after the sale is finalized. Many reports suggest the sale is expected to set a new record for the price of a sports franchise.
The news came as the Seahawks introduced a new member of their coaching staff.
ESPN reported earlier today that the team has hired Northern Illinois University head coach Thomas Hammock as their new running backs coach and senior offensive assistant. He’s expected to become the NFL’s highest paid running backs coach.
Meanwhile, the Huskies are searching for a new offensive coordinator. Jimmie Dougherty announced today that he’s stepping down as OC at Washington.
It came just over a year after he was promoted to the position after spending two seasons as quarterbacks coach. While Dougherty did not call plays, his departure means coach Jedd Fisch will be searching for his third offensive coordinator in three seasons at UW.
Winter Olympics News
The United States’ men’s hockey team is heading to the Olympics semifinals.
The US edged Sweden 2-1 in overtime this afternoon to continue its undefeated run in Milan. Team USA led for nearly the entire match, but Sweden scored with less than 2 minutes left in regulation to force overtime.
Quinn Hughes went on to score the game-winner to send the US into a semifinals matchup against Slovakia on Friday. The winner of that will play either Canada or Finland for the gold medal.
Meanwhile, the US women are facing off against Canada at 10:10 am tomorrow in the gold medal game. Seattle Torrent star and Team USA captain Hilary Knight has a chance to build on a special Olympics, as she announced her engagement to fellow Team USA member and speedskater Brittany Bowe earlier today.
She also has a chance to break the American scoring record, as she’s currently tied for the most ever with 14 career Olympic goals.
