Mariners News

The Mariners walked off the A’s this afternoon to pick up a much-needed win.

Josh Naylor scored Cal Raleigh off a game-winning single in the bottom of the ninth to lead Seattle over the Athletics 5-4. The game was tied when the Mariners came up to bat, but their stars came through as Raleigh, Julio Rodriguez and Naylor ripped off three straight two-out singles to avoid the series sweep.

It was Seattle’s top of the lineup doing most of the work, with every one of their first five hitters notching multi-hit games. Cal highlighted the effort by hitting his third home run of the series.

Logan Gilbert had a rough outing, giving up three runs through four innings, but the bullpen held the A’s to a single run from there.

The Mariners now sit 2.5 games behind the Athletics and Rangers for first place in the AL West. They have the day off tomorrow before kicking off a six-game road trip in St. Louis on Friday.

Seahawks News

We’re less than a day away from the NFL Draft.

The Seahawks have four picks, though general manager John Schneider has made clear that he intends to trade down and add more.

They own the 32nd overall pick in the draft, along with picks in the second, third and sixth rounds. Seattle traded its fourth and fifth round picks away to acquire Pro Bowl returner and receiver Rashid Shaheed at last season’s trade deadline.

They’ll look to build on last year’s strong rookie class, which included instant contributors in offensive lineman Grey Zabel and safety Nick Emmanwori.

Coverage for the first round of the draft starts at 4:00 tomorrow on KPUG.

College Football News

A former Huskies football coach is getting a big payday.

The University of Alabama announced today that it’s reached a new seven-year contract with Kalen DeBoer that will pay him $12.5 million per season. The agreement extended DeBoer’s contract by two years, keeping him with the Crimson Tide through the end of the 2032 season.

DeBoer has a 20-8 record in two seasons at Alabama after taking over for coaching legend Nick Saban. Before that, he led Washington to the national championship game in 2024, where the Huskies fell to Michigan.

NBA Playoff News

The Portland Trail Blazers evened up their playoff series last night.

They beat the San Antonio Spurs 106-103 to tie the series at one game apiece.

Third-year guard Scoot Henderson scored a season-high 31 points and the Blazers took advantage of an untimely injury to Spurs star Victor Wembanyama. The MVP finalist and unanimous Defensive Player of the Year left the game in the second quarter with a concussion after falling face-first onto the court.

The series now heads to Portland for Game 3 on Friday.

Meanwhile, the 76ers beat the Celtics to tie their series last night, while the Lakers edged the Rockets to go up two games to none.

Tonight in NBA playoff action, the Pistons are looking to even up their series against the Magic, while the Thunder seek to take a 2-0 lead over the Suns.
