Mariners News

The Mariners are back tonight as they look to rebound from a rough weekend showing. They’re in Arlington for the start of a three-game series against the Texas Rangers.

The M’s have lost four of their last five games, most recently with back-to-back losses to the LA Angels on Saturday and Sunday. Angels right fielder Jo Adell stole the show on Saturday by making three home run-robbing catches, including one where he jumped into the stands to rob J.P. Crawford. And yesterday, LA won 8-7 on a walk off sacrifice fly in the 11th inning.

The Mariners now turn their attention to another AL West foe in the Rangers, who have dropped four straight after getting swept by the Reds. Logan Gilbert is on mound for tonight’s series opener as the M’s ace looks to get back on track after two rough outings to start the season.

Coverage begins at 4:00 and first pitch is at 5:05 on KGMI.

Kraken News

Time’s running out for the struggling Kraken to get their act together. They’re playing the Winnipeg Jets tonight with their last hopes of making the playoffs hanging on by a thread.

Seattle fell to the Chicago Blackhawks 4-2 on Saturday for their fourth straight loss. They’re in the midst of their worst stretch of the season, as they’ve gone on three separate four-game losing streaks dating back to March 4.

The Kraken now sit six points back from the final wild card spot in the Western Conference with just seven games to go in the regular season. The Jets are also in a dead heat for the playoffs, sitting three points back from a playoff spot.

Coverage for tonight’s match in Winnipeg begins at 4:00 and puck drops at 4:30 on KBAI.

College Basketball News

A winner will be crowned in the men’s college basketball tournament tonight.

Top-seeded Michigan is facing off against 2nd-seeded UConn in the championship. UConn topped Illinois 71-62 on Saturday, while Michigan throttled Arizona 91-73. Dan Hurley and his Huskies are looking for their third title in four years, while the Wolverines are seeking their first since 1989.

Coverage begins at 4:30 and tipoff is at 5:50 on KPUG.

Meanwhile, UCLA women won their first-ever national championship yesterday. The Bruins handled South Carolina 79-51 to complete their dominant season, ending with a 37-01 record.

One of college basketball’s most storied programs just named its next head coach.

ESPN reports that North Carolina plans to hire longtime NBA coach Mike Malone.

Malone coached 12 seasons in the NBA, including 10 with the Denver Nuggets that culminated with an NBA championship in 2023. He was fired from Denver just three games before the playoffs last season.

Malone will now take over for Hubert Davis, who was fired last month after suffering his second straight first round exit in the tournament.

Sounders/Reign News

The Sounders kept up their hot play over the weekend.

Paul Rothrock scored in the 83rd minute to lead Seattle over the Houston Dynamo 1-0. The Sounders are riding a six-match unbeaten streak into Wednesday’s quarterfinals matchup of the Concacaf champions cup against Mexico’s Club Tigres.

Meanwhile, the Reign played the Denver Summit to a scoreless draw on Saturday. They’re still tied for second place in the league standings.

The Reign will be off for an extended break before returning to Lumen to host the Utah Royals on April 26.
