Mariners News

The Mariners picked up a much-needed win this afternoon.

Seattle edged the Chicago White Sox 5-4 to secure their series at T-Mobile Park.

The game was tied heading into the seventh inning, when Jhonny Pereda and Randy Arozarena each hit home runs to take a three-run lead. The White Sox gave the Mariners a scare in the ninth, when Randal Grichuk hit a leadoff home run, but Jose Ferrer followed with three straight strikeouts to slam the door shut.

Matt Brash made his first appearance since May 1 and threw a scoreless seventh inning to earn the win, hours after the team activated him off the injured list.

It was a timely win for the M’s, who had lost four of their last five entering the game, including a rough loss last night where they managed just a single hit. They now sit a game and a half behind the A’s for first place in the division.

The Mariners have the day off tomorrow before hitting the road to face the Kansas City Royals on Friday for the start of a six-game road trip.
