Mariners News

Mariners Opening Day is finally here. The road to October starts at T-Mobile tonight as the M’s embark on a four-game series against the Athletics. Their starting lineup looks similar to last season with the addition of two new faces. Rowdy Tellez will get the start at first base after joining the team on a minor league contract and impressing enough at spring training to earn a spot on their big league roster. And Ryan Bliss is at second base in the first Opening Day start of his career. Logan Gilbert will be on the mound against the A’s new ace Luis Severino. Coverage begins at 6:00 and first pitch is at 7:10 on KGMI.

College Basketball News

The Sweet 16 tips off today in the men’s college basketball tournament. BYU and Alabama play first, followed by Florida and Maryland half an hour later. After that, likely #1 pick in the NBA draft Cooper Flagg and Duke take on Arizona and Texas Tech faces the lowest remaining seed in #10 Arkansas. Today’s winners will advance to the Elite 8 on Saturday. The madness gets underway at 4:00 on KPUG.

Kraken News

The Kraken are looking to snap a three-game skid in their return to Climate Pledge tonight. Seattle’s hosting the Edmonton Oilers in the start of its second-to-last home stretch of the season. The Kraken are nearing postseason elimination, sitting 17 points back from the final playoff spot in the Western Conference. The Oilers are in pole position and currently own the sixth spot in the West. But they’ll be playing without a pair of key players in former MVPs Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl, who are both out with injuries. Coverage begins at 6:30 and puck drops at 7 on KBAI.

WWU Vikings News

The transfer portal has taken over college sports, and Western Washington University is no exception. According to portal tracker Verbal Commits, three players from the Vikings men’s basketball team have entered the portal. The same thing happened last year when three key starters transferred following the season. The Viks will look to retool after finishing the season with a 19-10 record and falling in the quarterfinals of the GNAC tournament. But their future looks bright with a pair of local standouts in Sehome’s Grant Keppley and Lynden’s Anthony Canales looking to lead the team next season.
