The Lynden girls booked their ticket to the semifinals as the state tournament continues in Yakima today.

The top-seeded Lions beat 2nd-seeded Deer Park 58-33 in the 2A quarterfinals this morning to win their 73rd straight game. They now move on to face 4th-seeded Clarkston in the semis at 3:45 tomorrow afternoon, we’ll have the game on KPUG.

Meanwhile, the Lynden boys had their season come to an end last night in a 46-36 loss to Renton.

The 2nd-seeded Lynden Christian boys just beat 8th-seeded Seattle Christian 84-56 behind 27 points from junior Gunner Dykstra as the Lyncs now advance to the 1A semifinals where they’ll play 6th-seeded King’s at 5:30 pm tomorrow.

Coming up tonight, the 3rd-seeded Lynden Christian girls take the court against 4th-seeded Annie Wright with a chance to advance to the 1A semis. Coverage begins at 7:00 and tipoff is at 7:15 on KPUG with Randy Farmer and the coach Dan Kaemingk on the call.

Over in Spokane, the top-seeded Lummi Nation boys beat 7th-seeded Neah Bay 70-48 this morning. The defending state champion Blackhawks now move on to the 1B semifinals, where they’ll face 4th-seeded DeSales at 3:45 tomorrow afternoon.

UW/WWU Basketball News

The Huskies women are heading to their first-ever Big Ten tournament semifinals. Washington beat USC 76-54 earlier today in the second round of the conference tourney.

They now move on to face 2nd-nationally ranked UCLA in the semis at 9 am tomorrow.

The Huskies men also beat USC 91-72 last night in their regular season home finale. Zoom Diallo scored 26 and Hannes Steinbach added 22 points and 24 rebounds to help UW even up its record to 15-15 on the season.

They’ll wrap up their regular season schedule on the road Saturday night against Oregon.

Meanwhile, the Western Washington University women tip off their playoffs tomorrow when they host the winner of Western Oregon and Northwest Nazarene at 2:15 from Carver Gym.

Kraken News

The Kraken had their string of dominance at Climate Pledge come to an end last night.

Seattle fell to the St. Louis Blues 3-2 to end their five-game win streak at home. It was their longest in franchise history.

Jaden Schwartz scored the first goal of the game, but the Blues responded with three unanswered goals, and a late score by Vince Dunn wasn’t enough to save Seattle.

The Kraken will look to rebound Saturday night against the Senators in the fourth leg of their six-game homestand.

Seahawks News

Another key contributor for the Seahawks is heading to free agency.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports that the Hawks remain far apart in contract talks with Pro Bowl receiver and returner Rashid Shaheed. Shaheed will likely hit free agency next week, where he’s expected to have many suitors after playing a big role in Seattle’s Super Bowl run.

He joins Kenneth Walker III as a pair of offensive weapons whose futures are up in the air as the new league season begins on Wednesday.
