Mariners News

The Mariners’ recent struggles continued this afternoon in the last game of their homestand. The M’s fell to the Orioles 4-3 to give Baltimore its second-straight series sweep. Cal Raleigh hit his major league-leading 24th home run in the fifth inning to give Seattle a two-run lead. But the Orioles responded with back-to-back dingers of their own the very next inning to take a lead that would hold for the rest of the game.

Raleigh drove in all three of the Mariners’ runs in the loss. Bryan Woo gave up four runs in six innings to drop to 5-3 on the season.

The M’s have now lost 8 of their last 11 and have fallen out of first place in the AL West after the rough homestand. They’ll have a chance to rebound tomorrow in their road opener against the Los Angeles Angels. Coverage begins at 5:30 and first pitch is at 6:38 on KPUG with Bryce Miller taking the mound.

The Mariners are giving a promising update on one of their star pitchers. Manager Dan Wilson says Logan Gilbert “felt great” after making his second rehab start with Triple-A Tacoma last night.

Gilbert gave up two runs on five hits and a walk in just over three innings for the Rainiers. The M’s ace has been out since late April with a flexor strain in his right elbow.

There’s still no update on when he could return to the Mariners, but Wilson called last night’s outing an important step in assessing when that could be.

Bells News

The Bells got a dominant 8-2 win over the Kamloops NorthPaws last night to clinch their home-opening series. Bellingham opened with four runs in the first inning and never gave up the lead. Three batters had multi-hit games and the team drew 11 walks in the win.

The Bells now improve to 4-1 on the young season with a chance to secure the sweep tonight. First pitch is at 6:35 from Joe Martin Field and be sure to grab your helmet because it’s Ride Your Bike to the Ballpark Night.

NFL News

The final domino of NFL free agency has fallen. ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports 4x MVP Aaron Rodgers plans to sign with the Pittsburgh Steelers. The news comes more than 80 days since the start of free agency and 70 days after Rodgers visited the Steelers.

Schefter says Rodgers plans to fly to Pittsburgh tomorrow and join the Steelers ahead of next week’s mandatory minicamp. There, he’ll join former Seahawk DK Metcalf in a new-look Steelers offense under Mike Tomlin.

NHL News

The Oilers edged the Panthers in a Stanley Cup thriller last night. Leon Draisaitl scored the game-winner with about 30 seconds left in overtime to help Edmonton beat Florida 4-3 in Game One.

The defending champion Panthers went up 3-1 early in the second period, but the Oilers roared back to send the match to OT. Oilers captain Connor McDavid set up both the tying and winning goals to help his team get an advantage in the rematch of last year’s Stanley Cup Final.

NBA News

Meanwhile, the NBA Finals are tipping off tonight. The Oklahoma City Thunder enter the series as one of the biggest betting favorites in Finals history. But the Indiana Pacers have been underdogs in each of their last two series.

Both teams are looking for their first NBA championship in franchise history. Tonight’s game in OKC tips off at 5:30 on KPUG.
