BELLINGHAM, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – A local credit union is making way for affordable housing in Bellingham’s Birchwood Neighborhood.

North Coast Credit Union announced today, Feb. 6 that it’s closing its branch at Northwest Avenue on Feb. 28.

It comes after North Coast agreed to sell the 31,000-square-foot property to the City of Bellingham in 2024, which is adjacent to an incoming tiny home village called North Haven. North Haven will replace two tiny home villages that were facing relocation deadlines.

City of Bellingham spokesperson Melissa Morin says construction on North Haven is already underway and is expected to start accepting guests in May. Morin says the village will be able to hold 48 people.

All employees at the Northwest branch will be offered positions at North Coast’s other locations. North Coast says it’s also launching a new website, followed by a new online banking platform.

“With more members banking online, we’re launching a new website this summer that will provide more information, be easier to navigate and offer live chat and online scheduler options,” said North Coast president and CEO A.C. Griffith. “Then later in the year we will be rolling out a new online banking platform that will be more modern and user-friendly with better financial management tools and applications.

It will still have two branches in Whatcom County after the upcoming closure, one at Dupont Street in Bellingham and another in Ferndale.
