EASY PASS, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – The North Cascades Highway is back open following a multiday closure due to the Easy Fire.

WSDOT says the portion of SR 20 between milepost 148 at Granite Creek and milepost 157 at Easy Pass reopened at 1 p.m. on Friday, July 26.

Fire crews have been removing trees and brush next to the highway and will continue their work in the area every day from 7 a.m. to 8:30 p.m.

WSDOT says the work will cause extended closures, with up to 30 minutes of delays to allow crews to safely clear the roadway.

Travelers are still being advised not to pull off the highway between that stretch of road and to remain alert for fire response and maintenance crews throughout the passes.

The Easy Fire is currently burning nearly 400 acres in the Methow Valley and is still 0% contained.

It’s estimated to burn until October.
