TUMWATER, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – Workers in Washington will see more pay and expanded rights under new rules taking effect in the new year.

The Washington State Department of Labor and Industries says the state minimum wage will increase to $16.66 per hour in 2025. The salary threshold for overtime pay will also increase.

Companies with 50 or fewer employees will have to pay overtime to workers earning $69,305 or less annually.

The overtime threshold for larger companies will go up to almost $78,000. Non-compete agreements will only apply to workers earning more than $123,394 and contractors making over $308,485.

Paid sick leave is also expanding.

Workers in Washington will be able to get paid sick leave to care for someone living in their home, a person they’re in a relationship with or if their child’s daycare or preschool is closed.
