BELLINGHAM, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – A future park in north Bellingham is a major step away from becoming a reality.

Parks and Recreation says that the new space on E. Bakerview Rd will add more green space for residents in the King Mountain and Meridian neighborhoods. The area, located between James St and Deemer Rd, stretches from the north side of Telegraph Rd to the south side of Bakerview Rd.

Preliminary plans include 3.5 acres are reserved for affordable housing on the north end of the lot. The remaining over 26 acres will have trails through the wooded area as well as park space with courts and recreation areas for the two neighborhoods’ 7,800 residents.

The park’s master plan will be presented to the city council later this summer. That will include potential names for the new space, and Parks and Recreation is looking for suggestions from the public.

The comment period to submit names for the park on Bakerview is open now through May 28. Plans for park construction are scheduled for 2027.
