The Mariners have officially been eliminated from playoff contention.

The Texas Rangers beat the New York Mets 3-1 this afternoon to drive the final stake into the Mariners’ struggle-filled season.

The M’s are now kicking off their final series of the season tonight in the first of four games against the LA Angels. There’s still something to celebrate though, as the team is honoring the longtime voice of the Mariners with Rick Rizzs Farewell Weekend.

Rizzs announced before the season that this will be his final year calling games and the M’s have since announced that he’ll be inducted into the team’s Hall of Fame next year.

Tomorrow will feature postgame fireworks before Rizzs throws out the first pitch on Saturday. Anyone who attends Sunday’s game will receive a Rick Rizzs placard and some special tickets come with a Rick Rizzs T-shirt.

The M’s final series comes against the Angels, who are capping off a nightmare season of their own with the second-worst record in baseball.

Storm News

The Storm’s nightmare season of their own has come to an end.

They fell to the Dallas Wings 103-91 last night in their final game of the year. Dominique Malonga led the team with 29 points and rookie Awa Fam added 22 as the Storm suffered their fifth straight loss.

They ended the year with the worst record in the WNBA and their worst in franchise history at 8-36.

The Storm will now look to earn the first pick in the 2027 draft, though the date for the lottery has not yet been announced.

Sounders News

The Sounders picked up their first win in over four months last night.

Seattle blanked Real Salt Lake 2-0 to snap their franchise-record 13 match winless streak. Danny Musovski scored in the 48th minute, Albert Rusnák added a goal against his former team in the win.

The Sounders are back on Saturday to host Minnesota United.

NFL News

A former Huskies star is making his season debut in primetime tonight.

Michael Penix Jr. is starting at quarterback for the Falcons when they travel to Lambeau Field to take on the Packers. It will be his first appearance since Week 11 last November when he tore his left ACL before undergoing the third ACL surgery of his career.

Penix will aim to help the Falcons pick up their first win of the season and revive their struggling offense, which has scored just 16 points over their first two games.

The game kicks off at 5:15 from Lambeau.

Prep Football News

Week 4 of the high school football season is also kicking off tonight with a pair of Thursday night matchups in Whatcom County.

Lynden is hosting Bellingham in their first matchup since 2017 and Ferndale is hosting 4A powerhouse Glacier Peak.

Both those games kick off at 7:00.

The Zone will be live at Nooksack Valley High School tomorrow for the Pioneers’ first-ever football matchup against Squalicum on KPUG. We’ll also be airing Lummi Nation’s game against Muckleshoot Tribal School on KBAI.

WWU Vikings News

School’s back in session and Western’s women’s soccer team is making their debut in front of students tonight.

The Vikings are hosting Montana State Billings for a special Welcome Back Week celebration.

The Viks own a 3-1-3 record ahead of their third game in GNAC play. The match gets underway at 7:00 tonight from Harrington Field.

Meanwhile, the men’s team is playing at Saint Martin’s, while Western volleyball is up north against Alaska Anchorage.
