NORTH CASCADES, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – A hiker who went missing in the North Cascades has been found alive nearly a month after his disappearance.
The Whatcom County Sheriff’s Office says National Park Service staff found an abandoned vehicle at the Hannegan Pass trailhead on Aug. 3. They later found a dog that was eight miles into the trail near the Chilliwack River.
Sheriff deputies learned that the dog belonged to Robert Schock, who had been last seen in the area on July 31 by hikers who said he didn’t have any overnight gear. Sheriff’s deputies, park rangers and Border Patrol agents conducted several ground and air searches of the area over the next few weeks, but nothing turned up.
The Sheriff’s Office says it then got word from park rangers on Aug. 30 that Schock had been found “alive and well” in the Chilliwack Basin.
No other information surrounding his recovery has been released yet.
