LYNDEN, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – Lynden residents have an upcoming chance to learn more about the sole measure on this month’s election ballot.

The Lynden School District is holding a town hall at its meeting on Thursday to discuss the capital levy that will be voted on during the April 28 special election.

It needs a simple majority to pass and if approved, would increase property taxes by $1.09 per thousand dollars of assessed value.

This follows three previous failed attempts to pass a bond measure to fund a new Lynden High School, which needed a 60% supermajority to go through. The district says this current levy only focuses on upgrades for existing schools, though a new high school remains a priority in the future.

Thursday’s meeting in the district office board room will start with a brief overview on the levy at 6:40 p.m. before the board opens the floor for questions.

Ballots for the election are being mailed out on Wednesday, April 8.
