Lifestyle Lookout: Severance, a magic show, Blaine Spring Party and more

BELLINGHAM, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – Don’t let a little wet weather put a damper on your weekend plans. We have a ton of fun events to check out in this week’s Lifestyle Lookout.

Are you a fan of the show Severance? If you are, you are in luck.

Western alum and Severance creator Dan Erickson is coming back to Bellingham for an artist talk at 4 p.m. on Friday, May 15. Join Erickson and WWU Theatre Chair Rick Brown for a conversation about Erickson’s time at Western, his play Convention, and his journey creating one of the most popular shows currently streaming.

The artist talk will take place at WWU’s Performing Arts Center. It is free and open to everyone. For all the details, go to the WWU College of Fine Arts’ website.

Fans of standup comedy should plan an evening at the Corner Taphouse (1125 Finnegan Way) on Friday. Southside Comedy Hour will feature Erin Ingle, AJ Norris, Brett Emerson and Lucy Tolefson.

Head down and yuck it up with friends in a chill atmosphere. Southside Comedy Hour runs from 8 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. For tickets, go here.

If magic is more your cup of tea, Mount Baker Theatre has you covered.

Michael Carbonaro is coming to town on Saturday, May 16 for a night of magic and wonder. You may know Carbonaro from his hit TV show The Carbonaro Effect, but now he is thrilling audiences live on stage.

Carbonaro blends humor and illusions for a one-of-a-kind experience that will thrill adults and kids alike. For tickets, go to mountbakertheatre.com.

If you want to brave the weather and spend some time outside this weekend, Blaine’s Spring Block Party is this Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

This year’s block party will celebrate Asian and Pacific American Heritage. There will be a hula performance, Polynesian dancing, traditional Thai dancing and Hawaiian music.

The Blaine Spring Block Party also features a beer garden, traditional food, local vendors, a tiki bar, and craft and kids’ activities.

Our featured live show this week is at the Firehouse Arts and Events Center in Fairhaven.

The Kooks are making their triumphant return with their brand of reggae and ska. Attendees will enjoy the music while supporting a great cause. The concert is also a benefit for the Bellingham Food Bank.
