WHATCOM COUNTY, WA (MyBellinghamNow.com) – The last weekend of September is jam-packed with fun events and activities in Whatcom County. From beer to film to a celebration of our maritime culture, there’s something for everyone.

Bellingham’s oldest brewery is hosting an Oktoberfest celebration on Saturday, Sept. 28, so get your lederhosen and steins ready. This free event at Boundary Bay kicks off at noon and will feature beer, food, entertainment and contests. The music starts at 12:30 p.m. with bandZandt, followed by Jules the Juggler at 2 p.m. and acoustic sets from Analog Brass at 3 and 5 p.m.

For Oktoberfest, Boundary Bay will also serve up a German-inspired menu of food. How do bratwursts and a beer hall pork shank sound? It’s an all-ages and dog-friendly event in their beer garden.

German-style lagers and fest biers will be on tap, but you can also try out a seasonal PNW specialty, a fresh hop IPA. Go to bbaybrewery.com for all the details.

Day on the Bay is this Saturday as well. Head on down to the waterfront from 1 a.m. to 4 p.m. to celebrate Bellingham’s maritime culture, fishing industry and business community. There will be free, self-guided tours at various locations on Bellingham Bay that will include tour boats, the Marine Life Center, a learn to crab event and a whole lot more.

Day on the Bay is organized by SeaFeast, the Working Waterfront Coalition and Sustainable Connections. For all the details and a map of all the stops, Go to sustainableconnections.org.

If you’re a kayaker, canoer, or just a fan of film, here’s a great event for you. The Northwest Territories Paddling Film Festival is this Sunday, Sept. 29 at the New Prospect Theatre. It’s an international film tour featuring the world’s best paddling films about whitewater, sea kayaking, canoeing, action and lifestyle.

The Paddling Film Festival starts at 4 p.m. Tickets are $25 at the door or $18 in advance. Go to dragonflykayaktours.com for all the details and to buy tickets.

Our featured live show this week takes down to The Blue Room in downtown Bellingham for an all-ages show on Friday, Sept. 27. Magenta Wave will bring their emotionally charged vocal melodies and harmonious guitar sounds to the stage. If you’re a fan of Death Cab for Cutie, Sunny Day Real Estate and Radiohead, this is the show for you.

Magenta Wave is playing with Balcony Bridge and Deadspin. The show starts at 8 p.m. and tickets are just $10. For all the details go to blueroombham.com.

For fans of farmer’s markets, the EN Valley Farmer’s Market wraps up for the season on Sunday, Sept. 29. The Fall Market Festival will feature live music, family-friendly activities like face painting and a bouncy house, as well as fall-theme photos. There will also be food trucks, ice cream and refreshing cold beverages.

So, head on out to the EN Valley Farmer’s Market at 201 Lincoln St. this Sunday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. to celebrate good people, great food, and the beauty of the Everson-Nooksack Valley.
